A first at the Institute as well as for the University, a contract has been signed with China and with Korea. With the signing of these contracts, HIPPY International has expanded to 14 countries in five continents.
The unit has been running a professional training course for ultra-orthodox and Bedouin women. The goal is to instruct them to become aides or caregivers for early childhood centers. These courses were established to address the needs in these communities and were adapted to the characteristics of the target group. The courses are financed by The Hadassah foundation and the NCJW.
Academic vocabulary of Arab students: Quality and quantity (Dr. Baha Mahoul and Prof. Elite Olshtain).
This publication is the outcome of research that maps out the academic vocabulary the way it is expressed in the Arab middle school text books in Israel and as a function of social belonging (general Arabic, Bedouin, Druze)and gender. The findings show the need for straight forward academic vocabulary instruction in order to be able to deal with texts that show the gap in Arab society between boys and girls.
